Clerical duties, copying, letter-breaking, etc. Required a knowledge of English or Chinese. The first four rules of arithmetic, good handwriting and spelling.

$720 per annum; voted annually in Estimates.
3. Other circumstances affecting the value of the office.
Have required us to the present, but considering the conduct of the late holder of the office, I think some security advisable.
4. Nature, number, and amount of securities required, and mode of them.
Whether any, and if any, what provision is made from public funds for the passage from this country, or elsewhere, of the persons sent out to fill the office.
No such provision is made.
